2025 LGBTQ+ Wedding Planning Tips

Back when our team launched RainbowWeddingNetwork.com in September 2000, every New Year -in a long succession- brought the prospect of unpredictability and volatility with regard to LGBTQ+ marriage rights. That settled somewhat in 2015, with the passage of Obergefell vs Hodges, but here at the outset of 2025, things seem back to the times of high uncertainty. What's in store for our weddings and committed lives together this year?? Color palettes, cake flavors and gemstone symbolism seem to take a backseat... Yet it's important to remember that these things too, are important. We have to empower ourselves by claiming our own celebrations, and that includes not just a vision for a future of peace and equality, but also a sense of FUN, of indulging in considering current trends, and of cultivating inspiration.

Read on for a mix of Quick Wedding Planning Tips from couples, wedding pros, and our team here at RainbowWeddingNetwork. Enjoy considering all your options and the possibilities of creating Your Own Special Day, just as you want it to be!

__________

Remember that at the end of the day... if you’re married to the person you love, your wedding was a success. Minor details (and sometimes seemingly major ones!) might go wrong, but don’t let that distract you from what’s most important.

Layering Meaningfulness: Be sure to choose rituals and traditions that resonate strongly for each of you. Take time to craft your vows, either together or separately, with the help of your officiant or your bestie, and add in at least some personalization - even if it's simply a favorite quote or lyrics from a song. On the Big Day, consider carrying a small token in your pocket or tie it to your bouquet: your wedding rings and photographs will be with you forever, but another small keepsake that you can carry or later set somewhere special in your home is an added way to bring that feeling of Your Wedding Day back to life. Offer a small keepsake to your wedding guests that is similar: a small heart-shaped stone, for instance, that they too can carry the energy of your celebration with them into the future. -It's wonderful, and highly symbolic, to know that others are holding the vision of your union into the days ahead. You may find it comforting to lean on that from time to time.

Make sure you have a schedule for the day - a detailed timeline - and that anyone who is helping knows exactly where they need to be! Even if to you if seems silly to need to explain it, this way you have all your ducks in a row and no one can say you didn't tell them what to do or where to be! Share it with vendors, your wedding party, and family/friends who will be in formal photos. It's not "bridezilla" to want things a certain way, it's Your Day!

Sit down with your fiancee and talk about the top 3 weddings you've been to, read about or even seen in a movie, and what you liked most about them. Think about the rituals of the ceremony itself, the way the readings or the vows were included... think about the reception: the decor, the vibe, the level of interactivity for guests... Then prioritize your budget by what you recall as the most fun, meaningful and memorable.

Try and make some friends with other couples who are also getting married that you can talk with excessively about your wedding, bc only other people getting married care as much - your friends and family may not be as excited and want to talk about it as much as you do... and keeping the momentum alive is important: Find even a small tribe that you can chat it up with, to make the most of this fun and once-in-a-lifetime experience!!

Including Technology: Digital save-the-dates and invites are totally acceptable these days, and great budget savers. And even if you're eloping, consider using technology to capture the milestone: casual videos may become priceless later, and are a great way to share your special moment! Having a more formal celebration? Remember that VR and live-streaming are amazing options for your out-of-towners!

Be sure to envision the kind of ambience you want to create with your wedding: is it cozy and feelings of warmth and gathering together? Is it a hyped-up dance party? Is it a spotlighted focus on you and your partner? Is it a sentimental interconnection of family & friends? What adjectives describe your wedding: playful, spiritual, sentimental, bright, rustic, colorful, heartfelt, lively? Use these brainstorming ideas to build the priorities of what is not negotiable in your overall wedding plan.

Set your budget together and stick by it. You will be tempted by a lot (glowing foam sticks, fancy black envelopes, additional favors) but try and stick with your budget. Consider purchasing gently used items, there are TONS for sale online. Some decor items are even in really good condition at the local thrift stores!

Sustainability remains a top priority for many LGBTQ+ couples. From sourcing local and seasonal flowers to using eco-friendly decor and catering, couples are embracing green practices. Smaller, intimate weddings or “microweddings” continue to be popular, reducing the environmental footprint.

Prioritize the most important parts of the event (photographer, venue, food, dancing, number of guests, etc, whatever you value most) and spend your money on booking those areas first! Everything else is just details and can be done on a budget with some creativity and time - for example, budget most for photographer and venue/food, but DIY the florals, including having your wedding party people make their own bouquets after the rehearsal dinner!

Stay organized and keep taking small steps forward. Wedding planning is A LOT and can be very overwhelming. Don’t be afraid to take breaks.

Unique Entertainment Choices? Yes, please!! Couples today are thinking outside the box when it comes to entertainment. Drag performers, queer artists, and interactive installations are making weddings more vibrant and memorable. Karaoke sessions, live bands, dance instruction and even unique options such as magicians, interactive keepsake stations, emceed couples' bingo games and other ideas also continue to gain traction: whatever suits the couple's interests and helps to bring guests together!  See RWN's recent article for further interactive ideas!

Celebrating Chosen Families - Finding ways to include and honor our families of choice is vital to our community! From participation as attendants, with readings, mentions in toasts, or creating a special thank-you table with messages and photos, to announce just how important your loved ones are: all great ways to bring together and interconnect your special people. After all, LGBTQ+ weddings inherently highlight the importance of authenticity, inclusivity, and love. Make the most of this theme!

Q&A with Discover DeKalb

Q&A with Michael Vescio – Director of Sales / Discover DeKalb Convention and Visitors Bureau

Here at RWN, we love to celebrate the advocates and allies who support the tenets of equality! Our voices are stronger when we stand together!

Congratulations to our friends from Discover DeKalb Convention and Visitors Bureau, on their recent award from the OUT Georgia Business Alliance. Their organization, Discover DeKalb, must be so proud to have received the prestigious Corporate Ally of the Year Award!

As the intro on their website states:
"Welcome to DeKalb, Georgia! In DeKalb everyone is welcome, so bring your authentic self — whether you’re an outdoor adventurer, craft-beer enthusiast, history buff, on the hunt for your next favorite meal, or looking for family-friendly attractions — DeKalb has something for everyone in the car (including the dog)."

Many of our readers may not realize just how much Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Tourist Organizations and even Neighborhood Groups do to support their LGBTQ+ citizens. These organizations provide residents and out-of-towners with valuable info about local events, businesses and attractions. Their staff knows firsthand the details about local cuisine, new start-ups, neighborhood identities, current happenings and much more, so they can offer helpful insights to both locals and tourists. Discounts and many other resources can be found through Convention & Visitors Bureaus; sometimes even hands-on services such as basic wedding planning guidance and trip itinerary assistance!

Hi Mike! Congratulations again, and THANKS to you and Discover DeKalb for all you do in supporting the local LGBTQ+ community there in the suburbs of Atlanta! Can you tell us some of the services Discover DeKalb offers?

As we all look ahead to a new Presidential administration, there is some uncertainty with regard to equal access and fair treatment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. How can Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Tourist Organizations and even Neighborhood Groups find ways to support their LGBTQ+ citizens?

MV: We just need to continue to support these events thru Sponsorships. Don’t just talk the talk – we must walk the walk. It is more important now than ever.

Are there broader ways that Discover DeKalb helps individuals get involved with what you're organization is doing, or helps individuals interconnect above and beyond your own specific services?

MV: Nothing any broader – just be involved locally, participate and speak up.

Why do you feel that it's important for organizations like yours to actively support, specifically, the LGBTQ+ niche?

MV: It is crucial for all Tourism agencies to support all markets – thru their money and involvement.

We invite all our readers to check out not only Discover DeKalb, but also their own local Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Tourist Organizations and  Neighborhood Groups...  You may be surprised at just how many resources are available to you, from saving money through discounts, to basic wedding and honeymoon planning services, helpful info about stay-cations, weekend adventuring and much more!  As you travel to other cities, check out their Convention & Visitors Bureaus also:  many have services dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community!

Protecting Your LGBTQ+ Family in the new Trump America

There is no doubt that Tuesday's election has left many of us with some rather important questions about our future.  Not just our future as a nation, but the future as we see it for our community and for our own families.  How will our individual rights be impacted?  How can we can best protect ourselves and those we love when our own civil liberties are up for public debate?  Longtime advocate, lawyer and RainbowWeddingNetwork friend Angela Giampolo confronts these issues and more in a recent brief article.  Read on, using the link below, to see how she suggests you can best protect yourself and your loved ones on the uncertain road ahead.

What LGBTQ+ People Can Do to Protect Themselves in a Trump Administration • Giampolo Law Group

Thoughts of November 6th

Your Love Matters.

This election may have profound impact on the trajectory of equal rights for many populations throughout our nation (and beyond); nonetheless, the authenticity of who you are and the love you cultivate in the world still matter.

Your family, your friends, your neighbors and our broader communities: all our rights still matter.

It will take time to clear the dust of November 5th, and set our sights toward the way forward. But we will.

________

As you know, we, the founders of www.RainbowWeddingNetwork.com, have been around for a quarter of a century, since the year 2000 - just before the first state in the USA began providing civil unions: we have seen a lot of tumultuous ups and downs with regard to marriage rights and LGBTQ+ equality. Our first recommendation is to let yourself feel all the  emotions of the post-election, and allow yourself to grieve... Ultimately keep reaching out to trusted professionals and gathering information from trustworthy sources to find the answers you're seeking: try not to let the panic overtake your decision-making. No one knows how long it will take for SCOTUS to overturn Obergefell, but yet it is likely. It was likely before yesterday, in fact. Will there later be a national marriage ban? Perhaps. But that is quite a ways into the future. Will those who are married have their marriages rescinded?  That is harder to come to pass, legally, but of course nothing is impossible when a president is saying he may shred the Constitution.  But again, that would be quite some time into the future.

Please anchor yourself today on the knowledge that your LOVE is real, your plan to commit your lives together is valid, and use that as your fuel to light a realistic way forward. Our community is very adept at organizing: we will find ways to do so and continue progressing equality. There are many wise and experienced people on the side of Freedom and Equality.  There will be more ups and downs, more vacillations, more setbacks; there will be more unknowns. But together we will continue to march ahead.

Creative Keepsakes for Your Wedding Reception

Looking for a few more ways to help your wedding guests actively enjoy your Special Day? Interactive stations continue to trend, from catered food selections to tabletop games, from selfie stations to dessert and beverage options that are self-serve. What about Favors & Keepsakes?

Creating an interactive area at your reception, for guests to contribute time and talent toward a memorable Keepsake for you and your new spouse... or Favors for themselves... is easy! Your Wedding Designer will have wonderful insights & ideas, but here are a few to get you started.

_______________

  • Interactive DIY Floral Arrangements

Set a nook at your reception with a table and all the necessities for guests to piece together their own mini floral arrangement: small vases or bottles along with optional paints or multicolored indelible markers (to decorate the vases), a variety of wildflowers, greenery, thin branches, long feathers, ribbons, etc... Add a sign letting guests know they're invited to become their own floral designer and voila! simple favors every guest can take home, with a collection of organic beauty and fragrance.

  • Budget-friendly Tic Tac Toe Favors

4 short pieces of yarn... 10 faux jewels / gemstones / buttons of two varying colors... 1 small organza favor bag

Pick stones or buttons in bulk online or from the craft store, along with yarn and favor bags... Be sure to choose hues in your ceremony colors! Create one bag full of goodies for each family attending your wedding, and place in a basket on each reception table. You can add a sign, or not: it's fun just to let the guests discover for themselves what the game is inside!  Interactive in a different way, as guests set up their own gameboards and compete with one another during the quieter moments of your reception.

  • Interactive Scrapbook Station

Invite your guests to create a priceless keepsake for you!

Create a table with all your favorite scrapbooking supplies: miscellaneous papers, crafting scissors, ribbon, wedding-, honeymoon and love-related stickers, unique embellishments, dried flowers and leaves, various photos of you & your sweetie, glue or sticky-dots... Be sure to set the full scrapbook up on an easel for all to see and to gather inspiration from others' contributions.

Or... Change it up and invite guests to create their own mini scrapbook or framed photo favor:

Provide mini-scrapbook supplies, or small undecorated wooden frames (buy in bulk in the DIY section - some are tabletop, others are magnetic) along with paints or indelible markers, stickers, embellishments, etc plus wallet-size engagement photos - a quick-to-craft Favor everyone can take home!

  • Prayers & Best Wishes

Provide an assortment of stones (there are polished and unpolished in varying sizes available at retail stores, or scavenge for your own directly from Mother Nature during the months leading up to the wedding!), along with indelible markers and a large basket, vase or wooden bowl... Invite guests to write a single word of hope or a short message on their chosen stone, and place it in the collection for you and your new spouse to take home after the ceremony. The two of you will treasure picking a stone, either daily or whenever the mood strikes, to be re-invigorated by the well-wishes of your chosen circle of loved ones, well into the future!

Optional: also provide small notecards (thick cardstock preferred) of some kind, in case some guests prefer to share longer verses or words of wisdom. Can easily mix the cards in with the stones!

  • Beverage Stations - lil keepsake box of recipes

Letting your guests play mixologist or barista?? Absolutely! Let them in on the fun! Be sure to have a deck of blank recipe cards nearby, or a special book, so everyone can jot down their favorite concoctions: it will become a special keepsake for you... and a guide for future party cocktails that you can share again and again!

There are countless ideas online about which beverage options to choose based on your preferences, the time, location, theme and season of your wedding celebration, your particular guest list, etc. But here are just a few of our faves!

Mimosa Bar:
Champagne or prosecco, a rainbow of juice options (orange, guava, mango, pineapple...), fruit wedges, herbs, pomegranate seeds, etc for garnishes. Offer peach puree as an option as well, so guests can create their own bellini if they prefer!

Mason Jar Cuties:
Prepare (or better yet, have your Caterer or Beverage vendor prep!...) your favorite sangria or custom infused cocktail in single-serve mason jars. The tops can be decorated with fabric, rustic bows, or just left plain for a truly folksy effect. Grab & go!

Coolin' Off with Mocktails:
Party pitchers or dispensers of water / lemonade / iced tea / juices, plus an array of fruits and herbs for infusing: mint, lemons, oranges, strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers, pineapple, limes, basil, ginger. Can ramp this up by setting vodka nearby for guests to partake if preferred!

ADD TO THE FUN of your Beverage Station by adding:

rock candy sticks (in rainbow colors, of course!)
edible flowers
mini umbrellas
cinnamon sticks
licorice sticks
fun-flavored lollipops for dipping
single-serve portions of cotton candy
customized koozies or coasters as take-away favors for your guests

RWN:  What are the basic services Tailored Brands offers? Do you offer resources for both men and women?
At Men’s Wearhouse we offer everything from casual wear to Custom Tuxedos. We service all people whether they are renting, purchasing or creating their own custom look.

Tailored Brands includes Men’s Wearhouse along with a number of other familiar companies: Jos. A. Bank and Moores; and family retailer K&G Fashion Superstore!
https://www.tailoredbrands.com/#

RWN:  Are clients able to try on apparel in your stores, the first day they visit? Are there catalogues to browse? What is the process for picking out favorites, trying on selections, all the way through making the purchase?

We offer physical and digital options. During a visit to one of our stores, one of our consultants will walk through the options and offer best suggestions based on the particular customer’s needs.

RWN:  What general trends are you seeing with regard to wedding apparel?
There’s an irresistible charm to a suit that never goes out of style. A well-tailored suit is a tried-and-true way to stand out.

A fine wool suit in rich navy or dark burgundy, perfect for the cool weather. There are plenty of dress shirts you could choose for this look, but for maximum seasonal spirit in the Fall, opt for warm tones like burnt orange or deep shades like a subtle plum. Swapping the typical silk tie for a bow tie or knit tie to add texture and intrigue to the ensemble.

RWN:  Do your store team members offer advice and insights to brides and grooms who may not be very familiar with dress codes, options and other fundamentals of choosing wedding attire?
Yes, Wedding season brings excitement and joy, but it also comes along with an age-old question—what to wear? Don’t worry, we’ve got the answer for you! We have a comprehensive guide that will help you navigate the world of wedding dress codes, giving you everything you need to step into any celebration with confidence.

RWN:  Many of the women we meet at our LGBTQ+ Wedding Expos are seeking customized, tailored suits... What level of customization do you offer? What kind of customization is available with regard to gowns? Are alterations done on-site?
While we don’t offer gowns, we do offer custom suits. We have tailors on-site and can also take in outside clothing for alterations.

RWN:  Are some of your services available online, or is it best for customers to visit in-store?
Most of our services are available online including our Wedding Group Manager. Use our online group management tool to coordinate your wedding party from day one. Assign looks, send invites to party members and keep tabs on progress to send reminders. But for tailoring needs, it’s best to visit one of our stores.

RWN:  What sets your company apart from others that offer similar services?
You can rent your tux or suit and return it after your event, purchase your look for a lifetime of memories, or build a custom suit and celebrate in a style all your own.
• Rental Best Price Guarantee
• Size Inclusive Selection
• 600+ locations nationwide

RWN:  What advice do you have for those considering the purchase of their wedding attire?
The advantages of owning a tuxedo are significant. First, the fit is unmatched; tailored to your exact measurements, it ensures you always present a flawless look. Then, there’s the matter of choice: endless styles, fabrics, and details await, enabling you to fully express your personal style.

Tailored Brands includes Men’s Wearhouse along with a number of other familiar companies: Jos. A. Bank and Moores; and family retailer K&G Fashion Superstore!

Easy Ways to Make Your Wedding Count

Without a doubt, Your Fabulous Wedding is going to be UNFORGETTABLE! For the last 25 years since we founded www.RainbowWeddingNetwork.com, so many vendors continue to tell us how they adore the authenticity and uplifting vibes that LGBTQ+ couples mindfully create with their ceremonies and receptions. And that is still true today!

That being said, some couples -especially given the ongoing headlines and proposed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation... ask our team here at RWN how they can include yet another level of meaningfulness in to their Special Day.

Easy! Creative ways to incorporate Activism, a Nod to History, and to Facilitate Meaningful Conversations are not difficult to weave in to the theme, decor and rituals of your wedding celebration.

Conversation Starters: Let's face it, breaking down barriers begins with open communication!
Assign reception tables with signage that reflects LGBTQ+ landmarks: ‘The Castro District,’ ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ ‘Ptown,’ ‘Stonewall Inn…’ Include a short sentence or two on each sign that explains what the name represents either to you & your partner, or to the community at large, that way everyone at the table will gain insights and not feel awkward if they're unsure about the reference.

Names like this can also be applied to your culinary selections or signature cocktails: "Ellen's Vegan Cauliflower Parmesan," "Sunrise over San Francisco.," "Obergefell, meet the (your last name)!"

Weave Your Personal Story in to the Celebration, even more than you originally planned:
Provide an outline to your Officiant and ask them to expand the mention of Your Personal Story within the matrimonial ceremony, offering some of the background info about how each of you came out, or how you met, or your wedding planning process. You might want to keep this short, yet pointed details can really help your guests feel inspired and more personally connected to the two of you as individuals and as a couple.

If you want to include a longer version of Your Story, consider printing it on the back of the Wedding Program, or writing a little booklet as a keepsake for your guests. Select details that share your experiences as LGBTQ+ individuals and as a couple that will help your guests gain insights about who you are and where you've come from, and the vision for your future together... But be sure to choose with care whether to include details that might go too far and detract from the joy of your celebration: You want your guests to feel connected to you and your story, inspired and uplifted, not dis-connected or overburdened.

Pride of the Rainbow:
Of course many couples incorporate a rainbow theme in to their attire, or the attire of their attendants. Whether as bold as different colored outfits for each attendant, or a subtle accent such as rainbow suspenders, this is an eye-catching way to include a reference to Pride within your festivities.

Decor is an easy option as well:  ice sculptures with a rainbow theme, popsicle or frozen beverage stations with rainbow colored selections, rainbow candies as part of the tabletop decor, multi-colored floral designs...

Some find it fun to go a step further, inviting guests to join in your theme by dressing in rainbow-inspired outfits or accessories, or attire inspired by each person’s individuality, allowing everyone to contribute to the vibrant atmosphere and fostering a sense of both unity and freedom of self-expression. This invitation can easily be mentioned on your Save-the-Dates as well as formal Invites.

Leaning in to the well-known tradition, it’s easy to find things old, new, borrowed and blue…
Getting creative with the basic concept, consider borrowing an LGBTQ+ related emblem from the past or from the broader community, such as a pink triangle, the lambda, or perhaps a gender inclusive symbol. These can be worn as jewelry (even your wedding bands can be custom crafted based on your favorite emblems), lapel pins, or added as an adornment piece to tie around your bouquet or as an accent in your boutonniere.

Gifting such pieces to each of your attendants, or as small keepsake items for guests, is another beautiful way to add to the meaningfulness of your celebration.

For further information on lesser-known symbols:
https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/lgbt-symbols

Quotes, Readings & Words of Inspiration:
Choose readings or poems that celebrate love in all its forms, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. This can be done during the ceremony and presented by your officiant, attendants or by guests, or incorporated in to your vows. The idea can also be added in to the reception as part of speeches or toasts. Including literature from LGBTQ+ authors or incorporating their stories can add depth, inspiration and authenticity to your celebration.

Include a short message of equality, inclusivity or diversity as a motto or quote on your wedding invites, programs and other priinted materials.

Simple Additions to Your Decor:
Consider small vases filled with the multiple flags of our community. Whether you'll have a lot of guests who identify as LGBTQ+ or not, these emblems are beautiful, colorful and also incredible conversation starters to help your guests realize the wonders inherent in diversity.
https://www.bu.edu/articles/2022/heres-what-the-different-lgbtqia-flags-represent/

Decorate your reception venue with a variety of LGBTQ+ inspired items: rainbow fabrics spanning the rafters, twinkle lights with LGBTQ+ symbols attached or hanging from the strings... art work from your favorite local LGBTQ+ artists... props at your photo booth that include lots of bling, crowns for the kings & queens, silly lambda shaped sunglasses, Pride flags, drag items, etc. Get creative in including a variety of references on your chalkboard signs, menu items and more. Then invite your guests to enjoy a Photo Scavenger Hunt: exploring the space and discovering the LGBTQ+ symbols. Ask them to take photos and upload them to a live feed playing onscreen during your reception, using your wedding hashtag: It's an interactive way to inspire guests to walk about and truly enjoy all the nooks of your reception venue throughout your celebration... and the photos you collect will be corny, festive and one-of-a-kind treasures for your digital wedding album!

Inviting a Speaker to Your Reception:
Toasts for the Happy Couple are important, of course, but you might also consider asking neighbors or activists within the local community to attend, share a meal with you and your guests, and say a few words:

  • A couple who married decades ago and can speak about their personal perspective about the history of LGBTQ+ marriage equality
  • President or co-chair of the local LGBTQ+ community center, chatting briefly about current events and how legislative proposals may affect the future of LGBTQ+ rights in your area
  • Build on the knowledge and presence of your Officiant: ask them to include a short mention of LGBTQ+ equality in to your ceremony... or go a step further and request that they offer a brief speech during the reception, from their own perspective as an an activist and spiritual mentor

Choosing Vendors Mindfully:
As our community is well aware, investing our dollars with companies that uphold a policy of non-discrimination does make a difference! Whether your wedding budget is $1000 or $100,000, imagine multiplying that times all the LGBTQ+ couples throughout the country who are this year planning a wedding... And then imagine all those budgets being funnelled directly to businesses and wedding pros who support the tenets of Equality. That's a lot of financial power!

Check out RWN's online directory for vendors you can trust, throughout the nation and beyond:
https://www.rainbowweddingnetwork.com/local-vendors

Supporting Others & Giving Back:
Go Exponential with this idea by getting others involved in your vision of Activism - it extends your effort!!

  • Organize a community service project instead of an engagement party.
  • Create a keepsake flyer or small printed directory with all your wedding vendors' names and contact information, asking guests to support them too - by doing so, they help support local businesses who uphold a policy of non-discrimination.
  • Many couples request contributions from guests in lieu of wedding gifts, providing the names of 3 or 4 organizations on their formal invitations, so that guests have advance notice and ample time to choose.
  • But you and your new spouse might also consider making a donation to an LGBTQ+ organization as a wedding favor in your guests' honor. This gesture not only supports a cause close to your heart but also raises awareness and encourages others to contribute to LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy. The two of you can mention this contribution during the speeches and toasts at the reception - be sure to play it up so that your guests understand the meaning behind your generosity!
  • Also in lieu of gifts... you might incorporate the artwork of local LGBTQ+ artists in to your reception decor, and sell the pieces either for the benefit of the artists directly or for charity.

Add an Interactive Station at your Reception for Voter Registration:
This one may seem over-the-top, but Hey...  If your guests truly want to support you and your newly committed life together (and they do!), a reminder that their vote has a direct impact on your future rights as an LGBTQ+ couple is a very substantive way to help them remember the import of our political process.  While most of your guests will likely already be registered, this interactive station represents a visible cue to prompt them to remember the personal consequences of their vote every time they head to the ballot box.

It's an election  year - every vote matters!

Be sure to also include a flyer or pamphlet about resources voters can use to find out more, truthful information about candidates and legislative issues so that they not only have the tools they need to vote, they have the tools they need to vote wisely.

Making History Fun!
After all, your wedding is a CELEBRATION! Add to the playfulness of the day by creating an interactive way for your guests to learn about and perhaps learn from history:

Trivia about LGBTQ+ equality - Make Bingo cards, either for each guest or for each reception table if you'd like to encourage team-play. Have your emcee or DJ ask questions about the journey toward marriage equality... about current events... about historic milestones or LGBTQ+ historic figures...

Wedding Tips from Couples Just Like You

The very best tips for planning your wedding usually come from friends, family and other couples. -Sharing their recent experiences, others can provide helpful insights that are hands-on, thoughtful and really well targeted. Read on for a few comments from some of the couples we've recently met at RainbowWeddingNetwork's LGBTQ+ Wedding Expos, or through our lively FB group!

"We are big gardeners, so we had a very rustic look to our wedding: lots of wildflowers for decor, my wife's dress was accented with lily-of-the-valley embroidery work... The reception decor was so rustic, with little corners at the venue set with comfy chairs and chalkboard signs, etc. This barn-style venue offered long wooden tables with a family-style dinner, and again, lots of mason jars of wildflowers on the tables (and everywhere, honestly!)  But the unique part was that instead of traditional gifts, we requested that our guests donate to a fund to help us rebuild the garden in our yard, and for additional landscaping projects. We had recently bought a new home and this idea was just such a wonderful fit for us - made our wedding even that much more personalized and memorable: every time we work in our newly refurbished garden area, we think of Our Special Day, and all our loved ones who helped us feather our nest!"

-Janice & Kaitlin

"We needed a way to include out-of-towners so a live stream of our wedding ceremony and a bit of our reception made sense. We made a point to notify those family members who refused to attend (b/c they didn't support our marriage) and we notified them in a couple of different ways, hoping they would tune in. Some of them did! It meant a lot to us."

-Graham & Alyx

"Handcrafting our own wedding bands was an incredibly meaningful experience!  Highly recommend finding a craftsperson or jeweler who will work with you and provide you with this opportunity.  You and your fiancee will bond over this experience more than you realize, cherish the memories forever, and the wedding rings will be that much more customized."

-Jason & Derrick

"Not big cake people!! So we had an ice cream bar instead, with a variety of flavors from the traditional and the whimsical (cookie dough, rainbow sprinkles...) to the more refined such as mango and pineapple, etc. We also offered drunken sorbet (Nieve de Garrafa, really... The Sparkling Wine-spiked Coconut Passionfruit sorbet was to die for!)... Instead of the traditional cake-cutting ceremony to top off the festivities at the reception, we instead gathered everyone in front of the ice cream bar, opened a fresh bottle of champagne, and toasted each other. We even said a few words to each other that we hadn't gotten a chance to say during our vows (bc we're kind of chatty that way). It was really touching and no one missed the cake, I assure you!!"

-KC & Daniela

"We wanted to get playful with our guests so going with a theme wedding was the right choice for us.  We invited everyone to dress up to fit in with the theme (vintage, 1920's, plus hints of rainbow) and it really made things a lot of fun. One of the interactive games we played was 'Guess Who' to help guests circulate and chat with each other, and they had to take selfies throughout the game - it really worked out so well!"

-Hayleigh & Marche

"I think finding a way to include all the kids who attended in the ceremony helped them own the event a little bit, and helped them stay calm and focused throughout the rest of the wedding. What we did was give each of our nieces, nephews, friends' children (who wanted to participate) a basket of goodies to hand out to the seated guests as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Each basket contained either a fabric bag of flower petals, bubbles, one of our programs or a keepsake favor (a small magnet with our engagement photo and our newly chosen surname: 'Cheers from The Pelhams!' ...The kids enjoyed taking part, the guests loved seeing them wander through the aisles, and it made for some adorable photos."

-Adam & Danny

Embrace the Fun and Individuality: Why a Themed Wedding is a Wonderful Choice

Weddings are a celebration of love, commitment, and the beginning of a beautiful journey together. While traditional weddings hold a timeless charm, an increasing number of couples are opting for themed weddings to infuse their special day with extra personality and excitement. In this article, we explore why a themed wedding can be a fantastic choice, allowing couples to showcase their unique style, create unforgettable memories, and delight guests with an immersive experience.

1. Expression of Individuality:
Themed weddings provide a platform for couples to express their true selves and embrace their passions. Whether it's a fairy tale inspired by favorite storybooks, a nod to a beloved fandom, or a celebration of a shared interest, a themed wedding allows couples to showcase their personalities in a creative and unique way. It creates a memorable experience that reflects who they are as individuals and as a couple.

2. Unforgettable Atmosphere:
When you choose a theme for your wedding, you transform the venue into a world of its own. From decorations to attire, everything is carefully planned to create an immersive experience for everyone involved. Guests will feel transported to a different time, place, or story, providing them with a sense of enchantment and excitement. The carefully curated ambiance ensures that your wedding becomes an unforgettable event that guests will talk about fondly for years to come.

3. Enhanced Guest Experience:
Themed weddings inject a sense of fun and anticipation into the guest experience. Just think of the joy on your loved ones' faces as they receive unique and personalized invitations that set the tone for the theme. A themed wedding allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the celebration, encouraging them to dress up in accordance with the theme, participate in themed activities, and even enjoy cuisine inspired by the chosen theme. Such an interactive and engaging experience keeps guests thoroughly entertained and creates lasting memories for everyone involved.

4. Enhanced Decor and Design Opportunities:
Themed weddings offer couples limitless creative opportunities when it comes to decor and design. Be it a rustic, vintage, beach, or fantasy-themed wedding, the possibilities are endless. From customized centerpieces and table settings to unique lighting and backdrops, a themed wedding allows you to bring your vision to life in a way that traditional weddings cannot. It also provides an opportunity to incorporate personalized and sentimental elements that hold special meaning to you as a couple.

5. A Day to Remember:
The ultimate goal of any wedding is to create a day that is uniquely yours, filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Themed weddings provide the perfect canvas for achieving this, as they allow you to curate an experience that reflects your interests and passions. Whether it's the surprise element of a superhero themed reception or the whimsical charm of a Harry Potter-inspired ceremony, a themed wedding will ensure that your special day is etched in the memories of all who attend.

In a world where individuality and self-expression are encouraged, themed weddings have become a popular choice for couples. The ability to exhibit personal style, create an unforgettable atmosphere, provide an immersive experience for guests, and unleash your creativity in design and decor are just a few reasons why themed weddings are a wonderful choice. So, don't be afraid to step outside the boundaries of tradition and embark on an enchanting journey that is uniquely yours. Embrace the fun and individuality of a themed wedding, and let your love story come alive in a celebration that will be cherished by all.

By adopting these strategies, your journey will be marked by financial security and mutual prosperity.

Harmonizing Financial Visions
Discussing your dreams and how you envision your future together is a beautiful starting point. Whether dreaming of a cozy home filled with laughter, adventures in far-off lands, or a secure, comfortable retirement, sharing these visions brings you closer. It’s about more than just listing desires; it’s about understanding each other's values and finding common ground where your financial paths align. This unity in purpose is your first step toward a future crafted by both of you, for both of you.

Elevating Earnings Through Education
Consider furthering your education to amplify your earning potential. For instance, get your computer science degree online to learn about networking, cybersecurity, and cloud computing and significantly boost your career prospects. This investment in personal growth enriches your professional path and solidifies your financial base. It empowers you to chase your dreams with more resources and confidence. Together, you strengthen not just your careers but also the financial durability of your partnership.

Fostering Financial Transparency
Creating a space where you can openly discuss your financial situations is crucial. Sharing details about incomes, expenses, and debts demystifies financial management and builds a foundation of trust. This transparency is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship, where both feel safe to express their concerns, aspirations, and achievements, fostering a partnership where financial decisions are made together.

Laying the Foundations for Homeownership
Embarking on the journey to homeownership is a significant milestone. By starting to save early for a down payment, you're taking a proactive step toward realizing this dream.
