Burning Coal Theatre is a professional arts organization located in the historic Murphey School Auditorium. This space was originally built in 1908 as a school in the heart of downtown Raleigh, and renovated by Burning Coal in 2007 as an intimate theatre space. With exposed brick and theatrical lights, your wedding will definitely be unique!
The lobby space includes a grand piano, restrooms, and a large bar (great for cocktail hour/buffet space). The lighting is modern and fun.
The theatre itself has a flat, wooden stage floor (not a raised stage). The seating is normally in thrust (audience on 3 sides), but all seating and bleachers are moveable. We invite you to be creative with the space, and make it your own! The balcony overhang provides great overflow seating, and gives a great view for guests of the fun events you have planned. Chairs are included with the venue, tables must be rented from an outside group. We can seat up to 200 guests without tables, and up to 150 with tables.
